Joe Costello TD, the Minister for Trade and Development, has welcomed today’s announcement by the Minister for Housing and Planning, Jan O’Sullivan TD, of a €2.5 million investment in a new Dublin City Council housing development in Ballybough, Dublin 3.   The additional funding will see nine much-needed homes built.

Minister Costello stated: “The nine new homes to be built in Ballybough are most welcome.  In my constituency of Dublin Central, one of the major issues I have to constantly address is social housing, and it is a positive development that Minister O’Sullivan has been able to invest in mainstream local authority house building for first time since the financial crisis began.  The investment in Ballybough is part of the €68 million that will be invested across the country to build new social homes for families in need of housing.

“The funding for Ballybough will be used to refurbish four houses purchased by Dublin City Council on Ballybough Road into nine new housing units.

“Labour in Government is delivering about 5,000 new social houses each year through a range of measures, including regeneration, direct construction, leasing and the securing of NAMA units.  However, it is crucial that more resources are made available for social housing in the years ahead to further increase housing supply.”
