Joe Costello TD, the Minister for Trade and Development, has welcomed today’s announcement by the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan, of €5 million in funding for protected buildings and historic structures across the State.  The funding is provided under the Built Heritage Jobs Leverage Scheme 2014.

“This investment will enable important conservation work to be carried out on protected buildings across Ireland.  In particular, 24 buildings are to benefit from this scheme in my constituency of Dublin Central, which is in the historic heart of the city.  These 24 buildings make up a third of all the buildings in the Dublin City Council area that are to gain funding.

“Over €200,000 will be invested in Dublin Central alone.  As successful applicants for funding must at least match the state funding for the scheme, further private sector funding will be unlocked by the scheme.

“I particularly welcome that this funding will help to support significant employment in the conservation and construction industries and in specialist trades.”
