Costello congratulates Gardai on drug arrests

by Cllr Joe Costello

I wish to congratulate the Gardai for their great success in arresting seven people in the North Inner City today who were dealing in the new drug PVP, which is popularly known as crystal meth.  Combined with other similar operations in recent weeks, the Gardai have made 38 arrests in the area connected with the sale and supply of drugs.

It is a resounding vote of confidence in the new small areas policing programme piloted by Store Street Garda Station, which has brought community policing down to street level and connected with people in their homes.

The community policing initiative is critical in the fight against drugs and anti-social behaviour in communities throughout the city.  It is particularly valuable when a new dangerous drug like PVP arrives on the scene and can cause devastation if it is allowed to proliferate.

Speedy and regular information emanating from communities directly affected by the drug trade can now become a powerful weapon in the fight against crime.
