Luke Kelly statue must be protected from vandals

by Cllr Joe Costello
The vandalisation of the Luke Kelly statue in Sheriff Street once again is an absolute disgrace. it is the seventh time the statue has been vandalised since it was erected eighteen months ago. Nobody has identified the culprits on any occasion.
It is an insult to the name of a great folk singer and also to the community of the North Wall where he lived. No protective measures have been put in place to date. It is high time there was a complete review of security and appropriate measures identified and installed.
The local North Wall Community Association has expressed its frustration and called for a range of protective measures.
I am calling on Dublin City Council to urgently review the security of the Luke Kelly Bust and introduce measures to make it far more difficult for vandals to deface it in future.
